MBTA Reduced Fare CharlieCard Sign Up

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

Who is this for?
If you are 65+, a Medicare cardholder, or have a disability, you may be eligible for cheaper MBTA fares! Save 50% on most MBTA services, and even more on monthly Linkpasses. Blind riders are eligible for free fares on most MBTA services.

Join us for a special sign-up event at the Lexington Community Center, where MBTA Mobility Center staff will be on hand to process applications and answer questions about the program.

Can't make it, or want to apply sooner? You can apply online any time at https://www.mbta.com/fares/reduced, by going to the CharlieCard store in downtown Boston.

What to bring:
Bring a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, passport, or another government-issued photo ID. You can use an expired ID as long as the expiration date is within the last three years.

Additionally:
• Riders with disabilities, please visit the TAP CharlieCard page for a list of accepted documents.
• Blind riders, bring a government-issued photo ID and your Massachusetts Commission for the Blind ID Card or Certificate of Blindness (or an out-of-state blindness certification). You can use an expired ID as long as the expiration date is within the last three years.

LPS students and low-income riders under 25 may qualify for reduced fares through other programs, such as Student CharlieCard or Youth Pass. These programs will not be included in the sign-up event, but Transportation Services staff are always happy to answer questions! Visit our website for more details.

* Adjustments and discounts will be applied during checkout if applicable. *
