Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health

Public health is more than just health care. It's the steps we take to make sure our neighborhoods and environment are free from pollution. It's making sure our food and water are safe to eat and drink. It's also the relationships we foster in our communities. We're all interconnected. When we all come together to support public health, all of us — individuals, families, communities and the public health field — can achieve the goals of public health. Join us for this one-week celebration of health by participating in one, or many, of our featured activities!

Mindfulness Monday - April 6 from 11:00 - 11:45am
Kick off the week with Maureen Gaines leading mindful movement and breathing patterns to increase awareness of body positioning and breath.  We will be seated for breath work and standing for movements, including work on posture.

The Insomnia Spiral: What's really keeping you awake - April 6 from 7:00 - 8:00pm
In this 1 hr workshop, led by Uma Viswanath, Breathwork and Meditation Coach for the Art of Living Foundation, you will learn why sleep can feel so hard and what is actually happening inside your nervous system at night. We will explore the science behind night time wake-ups, racing thoughts, and shallow sleep, giving you clear insight into what disrupts deep rest.
What you’ll gain:
• A clear understanding of why your sleep feels unpredictable
• A scientific explanation of the insomnia spiral and the anxiety–sleep loop
• A chance to experience gentle breathwork and guided relaxation to help your body and mind relax
• An introduction to the Sleep and Anxiety Protocol, a long-term practice that helps retrain the nervous system for deeper, more consistent sleep

SHiNE Together Tuesday -  April 7 from 8:15 - 9:10am
Join Julie Fuhrer for this class with hit music and choreography for all-abilities; the perfect balance of high cardio and toning to ensure you receive a full-body workout with real results.
 
Sound Bath and Yoga Nidra: Experience deep relaxation and calmness - April 7 from 7:00 - 8:00pm
In this 1 hr workshop, led by Uma Viswanath, Breathwork and Meditation Coach for the Art of Living Foundation, you'll experience deep relaxation and profound sense of peace through harmonizing sounds and discover how sounds have an impact on our system. Immerse yourself in a soothing sound bath and deep muscle relaxation.
What you’ll gain:
• An understanding of impact of sounds on our system
• A chance to experience the powerful Brahmari breathwork and guided deep muscle relaxation
• More ease and comfort in your system by the end of the session
• An introduction to the Art of Living program, a long term practice to remove stress, manage emotions, and experience deep inner peace.

Walk With Me Wednesday
- April 8 from 12:00 - 12:45pm
Meet at the Center Recreation Track to get in some lunchtime laps.

Table Tennis Thursday - April 9 from 9:00 - 12:00pm
Come one, come all, come to the Community Center to play some ping pong. There will be tables set up in the dining room for this special drop in play time.

Free Flow Friday - April 10 from 4:30 - 5:30pm
Finish the week feeling energized with Carolyn Gregoire who will lead this intermediate-level yoga class where movement is synchronized with breath based on a slow flow from floor to standing position.

Central Middlesex MRC and Lexington Public Health Proudly Presents: Make a Plan Workshop-Be Prepared for Emergencies - April 6 from 1:30 pm-3:00 pm at the Lexington Community Center

Each participant will receive a Make a Plan Template and 4” Star Magnet
The template will be reviewed page by page with emphasis on:
*why do we need to be prepared
*different types of disasters
*sheltering in place
*evacuation notices
*pets
* go-bags
And much more. This will be an interactive presentation with explanations of recommendations and examples of situations, as well as opportunity for questions and personal stories

Wellness Clinic
- Wednesday April 8 from 9:00am - 12:00pm
Meet with Wai Chong, registered pharmacist, and Kelliann Coleman, RN, to check your blood pressure, discuss medication management and learn how to properly use your blood glucose and blood pressure machines. Please bring your machines with you if you have questions on proper usage. Call Wai Chong at 781-698-4847 or KelliAnn at 781-698-4509 to make your appointment or to discuss the possibility of a home visit if you are home-bound.

Narcan Training- Wednesday, April 8, 6:00 - 8:00pm at the Lexington Police Station
Join us for an impactful presentation by the Flores brothers of Lexington, who will share their personal journey with opioid addiction. Their story will be followed by a Narcan training session, where you'll gain essential knowledge on how to save lives in an overdose emergency.
