CARE: Community Awareness, Resources & Education — Domestic Violence Education & Training Series - Domestic Violence in the LGBTQ+ Community
Join Lexington Human Services for a series of educational programs focused on increasing awareness of domestic violence, strengthening community understanding, and connecting residents with resources and support. Throughout the series, we will explore how domestic violence can impact different communities and populations, including older adults, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and Asian American communities.Each program will provide an opportunity to learn about unique experiences and barriers, recognize signs of abuse, explore ways to support survivors, and learn about local resources and prevention strategies. Together, these conversations aim to build a more informed, supportive, and responsive community.The series is open to community members, service providers, caregivers, and anyone interested in learning more about domestic violence and how we can create a safer, more supportive community.
Domestic Violence in the Asian Pacific Islander Community
Tuesday, October 13 | 4:00–5:00 PMPresented by Asian Task Force Against Domestic ViolenceExplore the unique experiences and barriers faced by Asian Pacific Islander survivors of domestic violence. This session will examine how culture, language, family dynamics, immigration concerns, and other factors can impact a survivor’s ability to seek safety and support. Participants will learn about culturally responsive approaches to supporting survivors and connecting individuals with appropriate resources.
Lunch & Learn: Supporting Domestic Violence Survivors with Disabilities
Tuesday, October 20 | 12:00–1:00 PMPresented by Reach & Disabled Persons Protection CommissionLearn about the unique experiences and barriers faced by people with disabilities who experience domestic violence. This session will explore how disability, dependence on caregivers, accessibility barriers, and other factors can impact a survivor’s ability to recognize abuse, seek help, and access safety and support. Participants will learn about ways to provide accessible, survivor-centered support and connect individuals with appropriate resources.Refreshments will be served.
Domestic Violence in the LGBTQ+ Community
Wednesday, October 28 | 4:00–5:00 PMPresented by Fenway HealthLearn about the unique experiences and barriers faced by LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence. This session will explore how sexual orientation, gender identity, discrimination, isolation, and other factors can impact a survivor’s experience of abuse and ability to seek safety and support. Participants will learn about LGBTQ+ affirming approaches to supporting survivors, recognizing signs of abuse, and connecting individuals with appropriate resources.
